Welcome to the Illinois State Police Merit Board

"The mission of the Illinois State Police Merit Board is to remove political influence and provide a fair and equitable merit process for the selection of Illinois State Trooper candidates and the promotion and discipline of Illinois State Police officers."

NOTICE

A law went into effect December 19, 2011 regarding education requirements for Illinois State Police trooper applicants. This new law states, "All persons who have been HONORABLY DISCHARGED and who have been awarded an AFGHAN or IRAQI CAMPAIGN MEDAL by the military" do not need to meet the college education requirement.

The application process is currently closed; however, if you select the Online Application tab on the left side of this page, you can enter your name and e-mail address to be notified when our application process does open. This new law provides those military personnel who have been honorably discharged, and who are without college education, the opportunity to apply.
